Volunteers Needed For Civil War Commemoration

Posted On by

On Saturday, May 9, starting at 9:00 AM, Green-Wood Cemetery needs volunteers to make our commemoration of the Civil War, 150 years after its end, very special. Volunteers will place 5,000 flags at the graves of military veterans, nurses, artists, and others whom we have identified as having played a role in the Civil War.

Bring your friends, bring your neighbors, bring your family. We need a cast of hundreds! You should all be well-rested–Green-Wood volunteers will need to do some walking.

We will meet in the Historic Chapel at 9:00 AM for instructions on how to find the right graves for the flags. Then we will go out onto the grounds — the trolley will help transport volunteers out — and the flags will be placed.

Directions: 25th Street and 5th Ave Brooklyn

Then! On May 25th, the cemetery will have it’s annual Memorial Day Celebration with an amazing open air concert and picnicking. Bring a blanket, bring the family, enjoy a day of American music and this year’s tribute to the 150th year since the end of the Civil War. For more info: http://www.green-wood.com/event/11-a-m-memorial-day-commemoration/

This is a great opportunity to honor the men and women who sacrificed so much — please join us.
