Brothers and Sisters,
On Monday, many of us will gather with family and friends to usher in the summer season, but it is important that we remember the reason behind our day off. Let us take a moment and honor those service members who have fallen in the line of duty for our country for they have given the biggest sacrifice so that we may enjoy freedom.
The New York City District Council of Carpenters has been home to a lot of soldiers over the years, whether they were employed before their service began, or after their tours of duty ended. We are dedicated to helping our veterans when they return home, and we do so in the best ways we know how: by volunteering to build homes for them when they need the help of their fellow Americans; or by offering them the opportunity of a great job when they return from their service. We must solidify and reaffirm our commitment to our service members and their mission. We owe all our service members a debt of gratitude for their sacrifices in the defense of liberty and it is our solemn duty to keep the memory alive of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
May we never forget those who fought for our freedom. This weekend we celebrate the lives of those who have indelibly made America the land of the free and the home of the brave. On behalf of the NYCDCC, I wish everyone a safe, healthy and happy Memorial Day!
