The New York City District Council of Carpenters urges each and every member to register to vote. Remaining politically active and exercising our right to vote is crucial in securing good, safe jobs that will help support our families and keep our union strong for generations to come. Out of Work List / New York City Housing Authority Resident Certification Available for Skills List

Any member that is a resident of NYCHA (New York City Housing Authority) can apply to have their NYCHA residency added as a skill on their skills list available to employers. To do so, simply print and fill out the form available at bit.ly/2H4kk1U or call the Out of Work List at 212-366-3330

Local Law 196

ALL MEMBERS PLEASE BE ADVISED

Kindly be advised as per information obtained from the New York City Department of Buildings pertaining to Local Law 196 we are recommending all members who have not graduated from an approved NYSDOL Apprenticeship Program within the past 5 years seeking a Limited Site Safety Training Card to complete an OSHA 30-hour safety training course.

limited site safety card WILL be required to work on construction sites in NYC starting June 1st 2019.

This training can be accomplished by complying with the following training requirements:

  • OSHA 30-Hour Class;

Members may enroll for OSHA 30 at the Carpenters Training Center.

  • Members may also take a NYCDOB approved OSHA 30 construction course with voice authentication online from Click Safety. (See link below)

District Council Representative Sinade Wadsworth Honored

On January 24, District Council Representative Sinade Wadsworth was honored at Robin Hood’s annual Heroes Breakfast. Robin Hood is New York City’s largest poverty-fighting organization. The award honors successful individuals who have overcome hardship. Congratulations, Sinade!


Sign Up Now for the 300 Hitters Program

Taking place June 6-9, 2019, at the UBC International Training Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, the 300 Hitters program is designed to give our journeymen a broader understanding of our union, the construction industry, and our role in shaping the future in the years ahead. During the program journeyman learn about the history of the UBC and the labor movement, participate in communications and public speaking workshops, learn valuable coaching and mentoring skills, meet with General President Douglas McCarron, participate in a Q&A with senior leadership from our council, and are asked to share their vision for the future of our union.

Bronx Community Board 9 Meeting

The Bronx Community Board 9 meeting was a huge success with more than 50 members from the Soundview community attending. The meeting discussed an ULURP regarding an affordable housing by Azimuth Developers Group.



Toy Giveaway With Senator Jamaal T. Bailey

On December 21st, members joined Senator Jamaal T. Bailey for an afternoon of giving, singing, and holiday cheer with the Bronx community at the North Bronx National Council of Negro Women Child Development Center. Gifts were distributed to grateful children who enjoyed putting on their holiday Christmas show.


Holiday Toy Giveaway With Senator Leroy Comrie and Assemblyman I. Daneek Miller

On December 21st, members partnered with Senator Leroy Comrie and Assemblyman I. Daneek Miller to bring holiday cheer to homeless families from the Jamaica, Queens area. The event featured music, games, raffles, free photos with Santa, and, of course, gifts!


Three Kings Day Celebration & Toy Giveaway With Assemblywoman Karines Reyes, Senator Luis Sepúlveda, and Senator Alessandra Biaggi

On January 5th, members teamed up with Assemblywoman Karines Reyes, Senator Luis Sepúlveda, and Senator Alessandra Biaggi for a toy giveaway at the Holy Family Church. The afternoon was filled with laughter, prizes, and fun as local Bronx families came together for a day of joy.


Monthly MEND Meetings

The MEND Program (Members Education and Network for Dependency) holds monthly Peer Support Group meetings for NYCDCC Welfare Funds participants/dependents who are in both long and short term recovery, and wish to share their experiences, sources of strength, inspirations, and hopes for the future with fellow group members in attendance. These meetings take place in the MEND Office on the 5th Floor of 395 Hudson Street.

The next scheduled meeting is: Wednesday, February 27th, 4PM.

MEND meetings may be subject to change. Please contact the MEND Program at (212) 366-7590 or MEND@nyccbf.org to confirm meeting dates.

(The goal of the MEND Program is to provide assistance to participants and dependents in addressing substance abuse issues.)



REMINDER: You MUST Report Divorce to the NYCDCC Welfare Fund

Failing to report a divorce while you have a spouse listed as a dependent under the NYCDCC Welfare Fund (the “Fund”) is a form of fraud and may result in grave financial repercussions and the loss of your health coverage.

This is especially true if your former spouse receives costly medical treatments after he/she is no longer eligible for coverage. Please read this explanation of the Fund’s rules and an example of how failing to follow these rules may impact you financially.



Union Fusion Now Available in Mobile View

A new feature has been released on Union Fusion! There is a mobile-view accessible for all users on their phones and tablets. On the upper-right hand corner, there is an option to “turn on mobile view.” The NYC District Council is committed to making changes that will allow users to easily access their hours for viewing/reporting functions.

Union Fusion is a web portal and management system that improves workflow and communications between members and the District Council’s system.
