Healthy heart screening, Free for children!

Heart Screen New York, the partnership between the Louis J, Acompora Memorial Foundation and the Dominic A. Murray 21 Memorial Foundation, is providing free heart screenings for children and young adults between the ages of 12 and 25 years old. This free screening will be held on March 28, 2015, at Benjamin Cardozo High School gymnasium. All Members are welcomed and encourage to bring their children to this free screening. You can learn more about Heart Screen New York, and pre-register for this free event, at www.classy.org/heartscreennewyork.

This screening is open to the public, for any previously undetected heart conditions which may result in Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). SCA effects nearly 350,000 children per year, including Carpenters Union Member James Fisher’s son, Sean.  Through its affiliation with the Parent Heart Watch network of organizations, the Sean Fisher Memorial Foundation encourages NYCDCC members to take advantage of these free heart screenings available for their children.

You can also help raise awareness about SCA, and contribute to the Sean Fisher Memorial Foundation by participating in the 2015 Golf Outing on May 11th. Information about the golf outing can be found in the attached document. Through the funds raised at the annual golf outing, the Sean Fisher Memorial Foundation is able to hold a yearly screening for incoming freshman at the Waldwick High School. From 2009 to 2014, 748 students from Waldwick and Paramus High Schools were able to benefit from these screenings; this year it will be March 23-26.
